Last Friday, the Bertie County Board of Elec tions met to break a tie between those who finished deadlocked for the fifth and final seat on the board. Incumbent Wayne Bland and newcomer Kenneth Ray Cain each finished tied with 23 votes in the election held Tuesday, Nov. 5. If there is a tie for the final seat, N.C. General Statutes say the deci sion is made by casting lots. Following that pro cess, Bland was de clared the winner of the fifth seat on the board. He will join fellow in cumbents Wade “Tim” Emory, John “Timmy” Eaton and Jim T. Har rell as those retuning to the board. Newcom er Randy D. Robtoy also earned a spot on the town commission, defeating incumbent James H. Bland Jr. Kelford Mayor Bailey N. Parker was also re elected as he earned 30 of the 40 votes cast in the election to out distance challenger Ah mad Vaughan. According to Windsor Po lice Chief Justin Jackson, King Street will be barricaded from Dundee Street in front of the Bertie County Courthouse to the intersection of King and Granville Streets. “Traffic will be detoured around the downtown section of King Street,” Jackson added. Parking will be available in the parking lots behind Wind sor Town Hall and the Bertie County Courthouse. Parking will not be permitted on the blocked section of King Street. Instead, it’s time for each youngster to take time to write his or her annual letter to Santa Claus. Bertie Ledger-Advance News Editor Leslie Beachboard received a telephone call Monday morning from the North Pole. The call was from the Jolly Old Elf himself, seeking this newspaper’s help with information from all Bertie County boys and girls. Santa said he wanted us to collect letters to him and forward them to the North Pole for his elves to prepare the best possible holiday list.
